Week 1 EOC : My Voice

As a professional in the audio industry, I can say that it is an extreme amount of hard work, but it is so much fun! Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, there wasn’t a whole lot to do. Music became my only outlet. I started going to rock concerts at a very young age with my mother. With my outgoing personality, it wasn’t hard for me to meet who I wanted to meet. At the young age of fourteen, I was introduced to the wonderful world of EDM (Electronic Dance Music), and I have been in love ever since. I immediately started networking with the promoters and artists that made the scene. It was so full of love and so accepting to everyone that I jumped right in helping out with promotions for events, taking care of artists and working the door from time to time. As I learned how to breakdance, I became the life of the party. People wanted to know where I was going just so they could watch me dance, giving me the nickname “DubQueen”. In 2011, I decided that it was time to make a name for myself instead of being known as “that dancer girl Stephanie, she helped us”. I started a promotional company and stuck with the name I earned, “DubQueen”. Around the same time I started getting more bookings as a DJ and was really starting to build a name for myself. Then I got a job at a concert venue downtown called “The Old Rock House”. As a server and bartender I wanted to learn everything I could about running a concert venue. From the paperwork, to the stage production, they taught me everything I could ever want to know, but it still wasn’t enough. The more successful I got, the more I realized that St. Louis wasn’t the city for me so I packed up everything and moved to Las Vegas.  Going from being a big fish in a big pond, to being a small fish in a small pond was a huge change for me. It definitely put my life into perspective, as I knew I needed to figure out what it was that I really wanted for my future.  That’s why I decided to go to school for audio production at The Art Institute. Knowing that with what I have learned from my past experience and the education I am about t receive, I will most definitely reach my goals. One day I hope to run my own recording studio and radio station. Hosting a few festivals is in the plans as well. I guess you can say I’m going big, or going home.
